12 ways to increase your milk supply
While it may seem overwhelming at first, there are many things you can do to boost your milk production and ensure that your baby is getting the nutrients they need. Here are the most effective strategies I have found working with many families over the years to increase supply:
Overactive letdown and oversupply
Having oversupply is painful, it often means waking up in the night to empty your breast/chest even if your baby is sleeping peacefully. With overactive letdown, few parents experience as painful directly but it can be very challenging for the baby to manage and they may learn that having a shallow latch is safer for their airway which in turn leads to painful breastfeeding/chestfeeding and decrease in supply.
How to treat colic
Colic is so hard for everyone in a family. It can really shatter that lovely image you had of holding your sweet baby and glowing with joy and replace it with anxiety, exhaustion and stress. It is hard to see your new sweet little one so unhappy and not be able to do anything about it.
Postpartum depression, anxiety, and OCD
If you have just had a new baby and you are struggling with your mental health, you are not alone. The one US study I could find on this issue reports that 36% of parents are experiencing postpartum depression, anxiety, or PTSD—more than 1 in 3, up from 1 in 5 before the pandemic.[1]
